Why You Need to Create a Vision:
Verse in the Bible – Proverbs 29:18 :
Where there is no prophetic vision, the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.
Proverb Meaning: If people don’t have a vision to look forward to, they don’t adopt discipline and good habits (restraint).
In other words, if a person has a solid and driven vision to work towards, they would more likely embrace discipline and good habits to manifest that vision.
In case you think that the verse above is too cryptic… lemme decipher it for you below:
“Where there is no prophetic vision, the people cast off restraint..”
The word “restraint” means control.
In other words, if people do not have the vision to work towards, they let loose and do not adopt self-discipline.
In this context, boundaries are important because they keep you grounded and protect you from distractions.
“…Blessed is he who keeps the law.”
In Biblical Scriptures, if you want to be happy, you must be disciplined and abide by the commandments.
There is deep wisdom in this because some people associate happiness with fine dining, expensive watches, or luxury cars. These are nothing but toys and give you temporary pleasure.
Some people believe that happiness is freedom. (i.e. The freedom to do whatever I want).
But they can’t be further from the truth because true happiness doesn’t lie in freedom or buying expensive toys.
They give you short-term pleasure.
Real happiness actually lies in constraints within the context of nurturing a vision.
The other benefit of having a big, audacious vision and nurturing it is that it helps you attract powerful and like-minded allies.
