On 18 December 2022, my wife and I decided to attend a bodybuilding event.
It was at a crappy venue, but the crowd was small but raucous.
Then I saw the most bizarre things happening.
In Category B, the 5’ 10 inches above category. There was a SINGLE participant.
That’s right… I don’t know if it’s the organizer’s fault, but there was ONLY one signup.
Needless to say, he won the category – free protein powder, cash prizes and all.
Now, while I was shaking my head at the event… I’d admit that the guy who won was pretty smart.
Because he was at the right place, right time and right circumstances.
He was well-positioned to capitalize on the right opportunity because of the right planning and preparation.
After all, it’s not like he came off the streets. He still looked ripped even though he had no competition.
More interesting, here’s one lesson I learned from him:
“In Life, You’ve got to be Prepared.”
Here’s the thing most people don’t realize:
Most Opportunities have Expiry Dates.
They don’t exist forever.
There are a ton of reasons why people miss out on opportunities.
But one of the biggest reasons is that people don’t prepare for them or don’t prepare well.
And poor preparation is linked to a lack of planning – It could be poor strategic planning, poor tactical planning, or both.
I’ve gotten many opportunities early in my age through luck – Like how I got to work for MindValley and Ogilvy & Mather.
However, I learned how to create luck through planning as I grew older.
The right plans give me the clarity and direction to prepare, which helps me open up a lot more doors my way.
